New Delhi: Porsche Cayenne Electric will be launched today as the brand’s third EV from the German brand. It will be slotted above the Macan EV as the new flagship electric SUV. Likely to come as both regular and Coupe SUV trims, it takes design cues from the ICE-powered model while also having elements that make it stand apart. The Cayenne EV is likely to be sold in both RWD and AWD trims and will quite likely move into a high-performance Turbo version as well.
While the official performance numbers are not given yet, Porsche have teased details about the electric Cayenne. The brand even claimed that it will make above 1000 bhp in their top-spec Turbo version. With this, the new SUV will be in contention to become the brand’s most powerful production car, that is, if it can beat the Taycan Turbo GT’s 1019 bhp.
Cayenne EV will be made on the Volkswagen Group’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture with a new battery design, and is expected to measure 113 kWh. This would allow for a single charge range of around 600 km, remaining quite competitive amidst high-performance electric SUVs.
The most interesting aspect of the electric Cayenne is the wireless inductive charging function with which owners can park their car over an 11 kW floor plate to recharge their car without having to plug in. Porsche claims the technology can adapt to up to 4 inches of misalignment between the plate and the receiver united fitted below the front axle.
The Cayenne EV is loaded with tech in the cabin, coming with a dashboard full of displays. This is being labelled as the biggest displayed area ever on a Porsche, with which the driver also gets a 14.25-inch curved OLED instrument console with touch controls on the outer edges.
Then there is the 12.25-inch central display that curves down to the centre console and doubles as the infotainment and the HVAC panel. Buyers can also choose a 14.9-inch passenger display with in-car entertainment and video streaming.
Physical controls are still there for temperature, fan speed, and volume, with buttons on the steering wheel and including a drive mode selector as well. The centre console features a good amount of storage space, while the cabin also comes with ambient lighting, surface heating and Mood modes.
Porsche is further are going to introduce new interior materials with the Cayenne EV, with leather to be brought in new colours like Magnesium Grey, Sage Green and Lavender. The carmaker is also offering a vegan Race-Tex interior upholstery with Pepita-print textile, paying homage to older designs. This will also have one of the largest panoramic glass sunroofs fitted on a Porsche. It can slide open at the front and will work with Variant Light Control as well.
