New Delhi: About four years ago, Toyota had unveiled the GR GT3 concept during the Tokyo Auto Salon. Since then, there has been a lot of talk about the road-going version of this. There were earlier claims that it might come with Lexus badging, but Toyota had confirmed that it would be wearing the Gazoor Racing banner on it.
Before the world premiere next week, Toyota’s flagship performance car has been named the GR GT. It shows the model along with its previous iterations, the LFA and the 2000GT. While the previous two had a V10 and an inline six, respectively, this one's going to feature a V8. The video also shows the GR GT without camouflage. Toyota have managed to still keep it obscure, but it is wide-bodied.
At the front and back the light signatures hint at the upcoming 2026-spec GR010 Le Mans hypercar. While this one is a road-legal car, there is also a GT3-spec endurance racer coming. Toyota recently confirmed plans for a new V8 engine likely to be used by the brand’s luxury division as well.
A production version of the Lexus Sport Concept with the eight-cylinder engine could happen as well and be fitted to regular models.
The all-new ICE is believed to feature a pair of turbochargers and 4.0-litre displacement. However, Toyota are yet to release concrete details about the V8 and haven’t said anything about the new V8 or if it will be hybrid. Of course, the GR GT will be constantly without a doubt. However, LFA wasn’t the biggest hit due to the pricing and Toyota and Lexus are much more careful with their pricing now in order to compete with the likes of McLaren or Ferrari. The official premiere is set for December 5th at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon.
