New Delhi: Despite an aggressive campaign in Bihar, the Congress managed to secure only six seats. Yet the party leadership in Delhi is drawing comfort from the Jubilee Hills by-poll win, where the Congress candidate overcame both incumbency and sympathy factors, a result seen as a major endorsement of Revanth Reddy’s leadership. At a time when the high command is worried about the BJP’s growing influence in Telangana and Karnataka, senior leaders believe Revanth’s role will be central to strengthening the party in the South.
Within the party, another round of internal review is underway. The high command is said to have acknowledged the damage caused by relying on inexperienced hands for crucial decisions in Bihar — from candidate selection to alliance management. Concerns have also been raised about some leaders’ weak connect with grassroots workers, delays in accessing the Chief Minister, and poor media coordination. This has reinforced the demand for leaders who can realistically assess the ground situation and act swiftly in upcoming polls.
Revanth’s tight coordination during the Jubilee Hills campaign over the past ten days has reportedly impressed Delhi leaders. His ability to bring senior Telangana figures, Uttam Kumar Reddy, Bhatti Vikramarka and Mahesh Goud, onto the same page is being viewed as a sign of effective leadership. Party insiders suggest the high command may grant him wider autonomy in key political decisions and future local election strategies.
There is also a growing view within Congress that it needs leaders capable of countering the BJP’s aggressive political style. Delhi’s strategists are discussing the induction of leaders with sharper organisational instincts, on the lines of Amit Shah’s political approach, into the party’s national strategy group. Against this backdrop, the idea of including Revanth in a central think-tank is reportedly gaining traction.
Revanth Reddy, who revitalised the Congress in Telangana, now appears poised to play a larger role at the national level. Political observers say the Jubilee Hills victory has offered the party a fresh sense of direction at a time when the Bihar setback had dampened morale.
