Jubilee Hills bypoll: Voter turnout remains below 50%

 Hyderabad: Voter turnout for Jubilee Hills bypoll remained below 50 percent on Tuesday, November 11.

Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency, which is a mix of rich neighbourhoods and slum clusters, recorded an overall turnout of 48.47 percent. It is only a marginal improvement from 2023 Assembly elections, when it recorded 47 percent voter turnout. In 2014, the constituency recorded 50.18 percent.

Various electoral participation programmes were held to increase participation but the numbers remained muted.

The neighbourhoods of the constituency include Shaikpet, Rahmatnagar, Borabanda, Yousufguda, Vengalrao nagar and Erragadda. According to reports, voters from low-income neighbourhoods turned up to vote through the day while those in richer neighbourhoods chose to stay away.

After voting was completed, officials stored the EVMs in the strong room of Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Stadium in Yousufguda.

Drones destroyed:

At least six surveillance drones deployed to track irregularities, were brought down by miscreants using kites during the bypoll, reports said.

Meanwhile, drone operators were attacked in Rahmathnagar, damaging one drone and injuring two pilots. Some witnesses said that youngsters tried to bring down a low-flying drone with sticks and stones.  

Counting to begin at 8 am on Friday:

Jubilee Hills by-election counting process will begin at 8 am and will be done in 10 rounds. 42 tables have been set up for counting and results to be known within three to four hours.
