Dining with the Kapoors: The Kapoor family’s much-anticipated Netflix special, Dining with the Kapoors, is gearing up for its premiere this weekend, and the excitement around it has been steadily rising. The trailer offered a warm, playful glimpse into the family’s dynamic—bringing together Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Bharat Sahni, Neetu Kapoor and several other well-known Kapoors.
However, one absence immediately caught the audience’s attention: Alia Bhatt was nowhere to be seen.
Her absence quickly sparked questions online, especially given her growing bond with the Kapoor family after marrying Ranbir Kapoor. Now, filmmaker and actor Armaan Jain, who has created the Netflix special along with Smriti Mundhra, has stepped forward to share the reason behind Alia not being a part of the intimate gathering.
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Armaan revealed that Alia’s schedule simply couldn’t accommodate the shoot. “She had prior commitments to shoot. I might sound filmy, but like Raj Kapoor said, ‘work is worship’,” he explained, hinting that the timing made it impossible for her to join the family for filming.
Smriti Mundhra echoed his thoughts, adding that devotion to work is practically a Kapoor legacy. “That is the one thing about this family. They are all workaholics, and they all love what they do. There is always an understanding that everyone makes an attempt to gather and prioritise as much as possible, but inevitably, there are one or two people who can’t make it because of work, and that’s always allowed,” she said.
Armaan further pointed out that unpredictable work schedules often disrupt family celebrations. “Every function that happens, literally Christmas get-togethers, Diwali get-togethers. It happens,” he shared, emphasising that the family is used to such situations and has always treated them with warmth rather than disappointment.
Although Alia is not seen in the special, she has been actively supporting the project through her social media handles.
Dining with the Kapoors has been crafted as a tribute to the legendary Raj Kapoor on his 100th birth anniversary. Blending nostalgia, candid conversations and the unmistakable Kapoor charm, the special aims to offer viewers a rare look at one of Bollywood’s most iconic families, minus one of its brightest stars this time. The Netflix special premieres on November 21.
