New Delhi: Reliance Jio has launched a new virtual desktop service called JioPC, a cloud-powered computing platform aimed at bringing affordable and secure PC access to homes across India. The announcement comes as the company continues to expand its digital services footprint beyond connectivity and content.
With no upfront cost and a starting plan of ₹400 per month, JioPC promises to deliver the full experience of a high-end personal computer without owning any physical desktop hardware. The service is now available for JioFiber and Jio AirFiber users across the country.
At its core, JioPC is a cloud computer that runs over the internet and works on any screen connected to a Jio Set-Top Box. Users only need to plug in a mouse and keyboard to begin. There’s no need for physical CPUs, laptops, or ongoing upgrades.
Setting it up is simple. You power up the Jio STB, open the JioPC app from the apps section, plug in a keyboard and mouse, and log in using a registered mobile number. The system boots instantly, and you’re in a PC-like environment on your TV or monitor.
JioPC runs directly from the cloud, so there’s no lag, even on lower-end screens. All software updates happen in the background. There’s nothing to install or maintain. The system also includes network-level security, which blocks viruses, malware, and other threats before they even reach your device.
The company says the cloud PC is built to support AI tools and productivity software, making it useful for students, professionals, and small businesses. Users also get 512 GB of cloud storage, access to Microsoft Office (browser version), and creative tools like Adobe Express bundled into the monthly plan.
JioPC uses a subscription-first model, which means users pay as they go. There is no lock-in, no hardware ownership, and no depreciation. It works a bit like how people stream music or movies today, but for computing.
It also allows users to upgrade plans or features anytime, making it flexible for different needs, school projects, design work, or daily office tasks. According to the company, JioPC is especially useful in places where buying new PCs or maintaining them regularly is not practical.
JioPC is currently live across India and available to all JioFiber and Jio AirFiber customers. New users can try the service free for one month.
Whether it finds a permanent place in Indian households remains to be seen. But the idea of turning any screen into a secure and AI-ready computer with just a set-top box might appeal to families looking for flexible tech at low cost.
